Great Grocery Shopping App(s)!

Do you go grocery shopping?  Do you wince a little when you get up to the check out counter and see the total?  Even though I expect it, this still happens to me.  But I’ve found a few things to make me feel a little bit better.

1.) My Target Red Card – 5% off my whole purchase every time I use it.  And you know I love me some Target!

2.) The Out of Milk App – not sure if it’s just for androids but I got it for my phone.  It lets me keep track of my grocery list and remembers what everything costs after I’ve entered it in once.  So I can see (if I stick to my list) how much the total should be when I’m finished.

3.) M Perks at Meijer – Even though I love Target, I can’t get the coupons to print at my home from their website.  This is extremely frustrating especially since I use up&up diapers and there’s almost always a coupon online.  I hate paying full price, but I have no choice since I can’t ever print the coupon!  M Perks is awesome because I can “clip” the coupon without printing them on paper.  I get up to the cashier, enter my phone number and get all the coupons electronically!

4.) Ibotta is the new app I wanted to tell you about.  You can actually earn money buying things.  You look through their offers and grab whichever ones you want.  Last time I went shopping, I got Diet Coke (I actually didn’t end up buying this one though), Keebler M&M cookies, Pop Tarts, Crackers, BBQ Sauce and maybe another one.  I earned $0.50 – $0.75 for each of these items.  To get the offers you do things on the app like, Read a Fact, Take a Poll or Answer a Trivia Question.  The more tasks you complete, the more money you get back.  After you go shopping, just take a picture of the receipt and upload it to the app.  Once you’ve earned $5, you can cash out to pay pal.  I have $3.25 so far and I’ve only been shopping once since getting it.  :)  THIS IS A FREE APP so why not try it??  If you do want to try, I would love it if you’d use my referral link: Get the Ibotta App!  I earn $1 with each referral I get and so can you after you add the app.

ibotta

All these things make grocery shopping more fun for me and take away the cringe-factor when I get up to the register.

One last thing I do to save money on groceries (and I just started doing this) is to menu plan for the whole month.  This way I know every week EXACTLY what I need to buy for my meals.  It really has been saving me money.  :)

Please if you have similar tips, let me have ‘em!

Comments

  1. Just downloaded the app and can’t wait to give it a try. I already use the other ones! :) Also I like the monthly meal plan idea, I need to do that! I’m looking for ways to spend money at the store more ‘evenly’ and now it’s feast or famine. I think a month plan would help,

  2. I really love my RedCard!!!!!!!!!!! I have the Target app on my phone as well as the Publix app (our local grocery store here in FL) so I can look up the ads. It have saved me some money seeing what is on sale at which store. My Target app also has coupons sent to my phone every week! Great post, Jamie!
