Some Ideas for other Mommies who are Sick

So I have the flu.  I thought it was going away but I guess not.  It’s really hard, when you have a two year old, to relax and try to get better, but here are some of the things I did today.

Cupcakes was climbing all over me, as usual, and I feel bad telling her she can’t, but I had to.  It was very uncomfortable for me and I didn’t want her to get too close to my germs.
7 Things I did to relax and entertain my child when I was sick

1.) I played video games with her – well, she watched me play Banjo Kazooie aka “The Bear Game”.  She gets rather into it, though, shouting out animals she sees, laughing, telling me to get all the eggs / music notes / etc: “Bear get it!”  “Another one!”  Like I said on twitter, I’m pretty sure playing video games is the only known cure for the flu.

2.) Last night, Hobbs and I had a mattress party and he left it out in the living room.  So Cupcakes and I played on it in such a way that she even let me lay down.  It was novel so she didn’t insist that I get up.

3.) We shared snacks on the bed.

4.) I gave her a pen and let her draw in my notebook.  I don’t usually let her have pens because she marks on furniture, clothes, rugs and other non-paper items.  So this was a lot of fun for her.

5.) I let her play with my individually wrapped cough drops.  She loves in-out games so she had a great time with this.  She’d take them out, give them to me, I’d give them back, and then she’d put them in one of her little kitchen’s pots.  It was really engaging for her.

6.) Luckily for me, she took a 3 hour nap, which I don’t have to tell you, was very helpful!  Hobbs was with me during the morning and he always goes grocery shopping with us, which is very helpful, if not necessary, even when I’m completely healthy.

7.) During her nap, I actually took the day “off”!  I never do that – whenever I have time to myself, I’m online working on this blog or my social media stuff.  But I laid around, relaxed, and watched tv.  It felt very nice.  I kind of felt like I was being lazy, but I know it’s not true.  I just had to keep reminding myself that I am sick.  Sick people need to take it easy.  So give yourself a break too!

  2. Fell Better! Our ipad was my savior when I had the flu. Rotted the poor kid’s mind, but I had no choice!
