How to Make Heart Crayons for Valentine’s Day

Kids love coloring, but do you know what they love more?  Coloring with fun-shaped crayons that have rainbow colors in them.  I found this awesome tutorial on Pinterest of DIY heart-shaped crayons.

And I wanted to try!

But I was failing at peeling the wrappers off. So I called Leah.  She is a crayon-wrapper-removing PRO!

<– Do you see how some of those wrappers came off in one big piece?!  She used a knife to get them started and somehow they just came off.

Then we cut them up into little pieces… I used a knife which was pretty painful on my hands; Leah just broke them.  What a beast!

Next, we loaded up all the chunks into this lovely heart ice cube tray that I picked up in the dollar bins at Target.  :o)  We made sure to evenly distribute the different colors among the hearts so we would have the best possible rainbow crayons.

I just did exactly what the instructions on pinterest said: Turn the oven on at 230 degrees and put them in (on a cookie sheet) for 15 minutes.  It was perfect.

I think they turned out great!  What do you think?

I think I’m going to bring them to the preschool so the kids can use them. I don’t have enough to let all of my students take one home, but I think it would be nice for a Valentine’s Day coloring activity or something. :o)

I think this is the first Pinterest thing that I’ve actually done!  Yay for me!!!

  3. I’ve always wanted to make fancy crayons like these! I don’t have kids, so crayons are non-existant in my home. Maybe I should buy some especially for this project!?
